Claiming Your AWS Educate Student Account (India Guide)
AWS Educate provides students with free access to labs and training content. For Indian students, the verification process can sometimes be tricky due to naming conventions on institutional IDs. Follow this guide to ensure a smooth approval.
Before you start
Keep the following documents and information ready to avoid session timeouts:
- Institutional Email ID: Your official college email (e.g.,
student@yourcollege.ac.inorname@mit.edu.in). - College ID Card: A clear photo or scan of your physical ID card (front and back).
- Government ID (Backup): Your PAN Card or Aadhaar Card (needed if your college ID has initials or doesn't match your full name).
- Exact Institution Name: Know the full registered name of your college (as it appears in official records).
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Visit the Portal: Go to the AWS Educate Registration Page and click on "Join AWS Educate".
- Select Your Role: Choose "Student" from the available options.
- Enter Institution Details:
- Start typing your college name. Select it from the dropdown list if it appears.
- If your college is not listed, you can type the name manually, but this may trigger a longer manual review.
- Select India as your country.
- Personal Information:
- Enter your First Name and Last Name exactly as they appear on your government-issued ID (PAN/Aadhaar).
- Provide your Institutional Email. Using a personal Gmail/Outlook account is not recommended and often leads to rejection.
- Graduation Details: Enter your expected graduation month and year. You must be currently enrolled to qualify.
- Verify Your Email:
- Check your college email inbox for a verification link from AWS.
- Click the link immediately. Note: Your application will not be processed until this step is completed.
- Submit Documentation (If Prompted): If the automated system cannot verify your status via email alone, you will be asked to upload a photo of your Student ID.
India-Specific Tips & Workarounds
Indian students often face verification failures because of "Name Mismatch" or "Initials" on college IDs. Use these tips to bypass common errors:
The "Initials" Workaround
If your College ID says "R. K. Sharma" but your Government ID and AWS Profile say "Rahul Kumar Sharma", the automated system will likely reject you.
- The Fix: Upload a composite image. Use a phone app to put your College ID and PAN Card (or Aadhaar) side-by-side in a single photo.
- This proves to the manual reviewer that the "R. K." on the college ID belongs to the "Rahul Kumar" on the government ID.
Government ID as Supplemental Proof
While AWS Educate specifically asks for a Student ID, Indian manual reviewers (via AISPL) often accept a PAN Card as secondary proof of identity if your Student ID lacks a photo, signature, or has a different name format.
Avoid Using a VPN
Ensure you are not using a VPN or Proxy during registration. AWS tracks your IP address to verify your location (India), and using a VPN can flag your account for fraud.
If Rejected
If your application is rejected, do not just re-apply with the same info. Open a support case via the "AWS Support Center" and attach your full-name government ID along with your college ID, explaining the name discrepancy clearly.
